Ola! Bom dia!<\/p>\n

Finally, I managed to check off another item on my bucket list.<\/p>\n

Yes! The Azores!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just something out of this world, like another reality. Incredibly pure and untouched nature \u2014 green forests, crystal-clear lakes, volcanic mountain peaks against the ocean, and in summer, every island literally drowned in hydrangeas. In some places, it felt unreal, like the Jurassic Park is about to appear and a dinosaur will pop out, or some terrifyingly beautiful creature will fly by. Such beauty in every single square meter that no blog format or photo could ever do it justice.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

S\u00e3o Miguel<\/a> \u2013 the largest island, with geysers, tea plantations, waterfalls, thermal springs, crater lakes, and a huge botanical garden with natural hot pools.<\/p>\n

Terceira<\/a> \u2013 the second largest island: volcanic landscapes, underground caves in a volcanic crater, calderas, mountains.<\/p>\n

Faial<\/a> \u2013 a legend and a hotspot for sailors, the youngest volcano, levadas, with views of the island and Mount Pico.<\/p>\n

Pico<\/a> \u2013 incredibly, on these lifeless lava lands of the island, in small plots fenced with volcanic stones, they grow grapes and produce wine!<\/p>\n

S\u00e3o Jorge<\/a> \u2013 dramatic black cliffs along the coast and greenery; everything around is lush and green, with tiny villages on faj\u00e3s \u2014 small patches of land by the ocean.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll make a separate post for each island. There will be lots of photos \u2014 I really want to share what I\u2019ve seen. For now, just the highlights that apply to all the islands.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

The Azores \u2013 where is that?<\/h2>\n

The Azores are a region of Portugal, located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 1,500 km from Lisbon. The archipelago consists of nine main islands, all of volcanic origin. The highest point in Portugal, Mount Pico (2,351 meters), is on the island of the same name and is an active volcano.<\/p>\n

The islands are usually divided into three groups:<\/p>\n

  • Western \u2013 Corvo, Flores.<\/li>\n
  • Central \u2013 Terceira, S\u00e3o Jorge, Faial, Pico, Graciosa.<\/li>\n
  • Eastern \u2013 S\u00e3o Miguel, Santa Maria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The largest island is S\u00e3o Miguel, and the smallest is Corvo.<\/p> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n
