The road from Batumi to Borjomi is also excellent, passing through Kutaisi.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aleksblog.com\/en\/kutaisi-travel-guide\/\">Kutaisi and the surrounding area in two days<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The most cost-effective way to rent a car in Georgia is through <a href=\"https:\/\/localrent.tpx.lu\/QLmeRlQM\">LocalRent<\/a>. Why \u2013 I explained in detail in my article about <a href=\"https:\/\/aleksblog.com\/en\/car-rental-in-georgia\/\">car rentals and driving in Georgia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Excursions<\/h3>\n<p>Whether from Batumi or Tbilisi, a trip to Vardzia is a full-day journey. Prices start at $40 for a group tour. Use the prices on the <a href=\"https:\/\/gotrip.ge\/en\/?p=43travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gotrip.ge<\/a> service as a reference. I traveled with them this year from Batumi to Kutaisi, and we also stopped at <a href=\"https:\/\/aleksblog.com\/en\/prometheus-cave-georgia\/\">Prometheus Cave<\/a> and the Martvili Canyons \u2013 I really loved it. In the end, it was even more convenient and cheaper than a tour.<\/p>    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- \/module text -->        <\/div>\n                    <div  data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_column tb-column col4-2 tb_dsm1559 last\">\n                    <!-- module text -->\n<div  class=\"module module-text tb_ah0u559   \" data-lazy=\"1\">\n        <div  class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n        <h3>How to get there by minibus<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s complete madness, and I would never choose this option myself, but here it is.<\/p>\n<p>To get from Borjomi to Vardzia by minibus, you first need to get to Akhaltsikhe. Minibuses from Tbilisi to Akhaltsikhe depart from Didube Bus Station starting at 8 a.m., every 40 minutes. The journey takes 3 hours.<\/p>\n<p>From Borjomi to Akhaltsikhe, there are several minibuses in the morning and afternoon. From Akhaltsikhe to Vardzia, there\u2019s also a minibus. The last minibus from Vardzia leaves at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>If you take the first minibus from Borjomi to Akhaltsikhe, you can visit Rabati Fortress and then catch the 12:20 minibus to Vardzia. Climbing the stairs and wandering through the caves is really engaging, very much in the spirit of Indiana Jones.<\/p>\n<p>From the ticket office to the hill where the caves begin, you need to walk about 500 meters uphill along the road. It had living quarters, libraries, storage rooms, baths, dining halls, and churches. Most of the city broke away and was destroyed. What we see today \u2013 a kind of cross-section of the city on the cliff \u2013 is the result of that earthquake.
